Residential Boilers

A boiler may typically be found in an older home.  They are fueled by natural gas, liquid propane or fuel oil. Units built after 1992 will have an AFUE rating of at least 80 percent. A boiler works by heating water to a temperature of approximately 180 degrees Fahrenheit and and circulating it through pipes to radiators where it warms the surrounding air. your home in the winter, and pump it out in the summer. Keep the existing boiler or install a new one? Here are a few things to consider:

  • What is the condition of the metal that the boiler is made of?
  • What is the condition of the doors, brickwork, burners, and controls?
  • Is the boiler the right size? If not, it may be a good decision to replace it regardless of the condition.
